The fact of the matter is, when you date in another country, it can be difficult to find a partner.
Often the rules are different (and things like that).
According to my Japanese husband, a Japanese man with a foreign girlfriend is seen to be 1) rich and/or 2) well endowed. Some of what you said holds true for my relationship, too-- like expectations of a psychic nature and general PDA, but because my guy spent puberty in England, he's a bit weird for here, I guess.
But the fact that they are coming forward and asking you stuff… I’m french but was born and raised in Berlin, so I’m a foreigner as long as I can remember. And to be honest, while in Berlin, I wasn’t too interested in foreigners either. One thing I realised while reading everyones thoughts, is that I get asked a lot if I was into mangas or Japanese women…According to my blog's analytics, Foreign Girls Dating in Japan is the most searched term that leads to my blog (well, after "futon"), which is funny as I deliberately never blogged about this.I've been in Japan nearly four years, and never knew what to say about dating in Japan- or rather, I wanted to research more and give correct information, as it kept changing through the years. Some of these stories have little nuggets of wisdom for if you’re trying to meet someone in Japan; some don’t.

People who never left and never will leave their country can’t possibly understand what it is like to leave ones country, and I guess can’t understand why in all the world people would come to Japan with all it’s problems.
as if there wouldn’t be another reason to come to Japan! I also get incomprehension and doubtful looks when I tell them that I find more similarities than differences when I think of French and Japanese culture or German and Japanese culture for that fact. Once you know something well, you see both the good and bad sides, and how they’re connected.
When I say that there are plenty of reasons, for instance food, culture, budo or simply the joy of speaking Japanese. What really struck me though, was a couple of years ago, when I was in Okinawa. So if you don’t have a list of negatives for something, then either you don’t know that thing well enough or you’ve stumbled onto some magical thing in which the rules of the universe no longer apply.
